Shepherd's Hollow Farm

The road leading to our farm Well, let's start with the second question first: Why do we move so often? It is quite simple really, Lee is an Officer in the United States Air Force and gets reassigned every two to three years. Military life is wonderful but you sure do move a lot! Lee has been stationed all over the world including 3 years in The Netherlands and 4 years in England. He is currently assigned to the Pentagon and we are living in beautiful Northern Virginia. People often ask us if it is difficult moving every few years with your dogs. The short answer: YES! Finding the right place to live is the challenging part though, but we wouldn't have it any other way. The dogs however, are a joy to move with. Their wonderful temperaments and easy-going dispositions make them keen for a new adventure. They always get excited when the movers come to start packing as they know we are headed somewhere new.
Part of the fun for them in moving is our Recreational Vehicle. We have a large 37 foot Travel Trailer (a caravan for our European and Australasian friends) and when we move, the dogs get to sleep on the sofa of the travel trailer. In short, we love the Border Collie and are devoted to the breed so the challenges of frequent moves are just part of the experience. That's one big trailer!
The barn on the property Now, on to our farm in Tennessee…As much as we love Air Force life and all of the excitement of moving all over the world; no one stays in the military forever. We knew that when the time came for us to retire from the Air Force, that we wanted a place where we could settle down, raise our border collies, and raise sheep as well. We wanted enough land for that, as well as room to build an agility area and maybe to do some modest farming.
We were blessed enough to locate a 140 acre farm in far northeast Tennessee in the Appalachian Mountains (near the town of Rogersville, about 1.5 hours northeast of Knoxville, Tennessee). To us, it is truly a slice of heaven with natural springs, creeks, barns, and even a pond. Mountains (that we own) bound it on three sides so it is very peaceful and quiet. We plan to start construction of a house and kennel there in the very near future. In fact, we have already begun discussions with an architect. The view from our yet to be built house!

We are even planning a separate guest cabin, so our friends will always be welcome and have a place to stay. If you have never seen the Appalachian Mountains in the autumn, you are missing something absolutely spectacular. The reds, yellows, oranges, and greens of the fall colors are breathtaking. We, along with our Tonalee Border Collies will have the privilege and pleasure of enjoying those views for many years to come. Our current assignment to the Pentagon will give us lots of chances to enjoy those spectacular views over the next few years before we move again to whatever adventure the Air Force has in store for us, so we plan on taking full advantage of it
